Earthrise Energy Awards $20,000 Grant to Embarras River Basin Agency to Support Foreclosure Prevention Efforts
Funding Will Provide Direct Mortgage Assistance, Financial Counseling, and Education to Help Families Maintain Homeownership
Earthrise Energy has awarded a $20,000 grant to the Embarras River Basin Agency (ERBA) to help individuals and families facing the threat of foreclosure. This funding will provide critical financial assistance, educational resources, and counseling services to support homeowners in navigating the complexities of foreclosure prevention and maintaining long-term housing stability.
“At ERBA, we understand that foreclosure doesn’t just impact a home—it disrupts lives,” said Sandy Deters, Housing Counseling Coordinator of ERBA. “This grant from Earthrise Energy allows us to offer critical support and help ensure that families have the tools they need to remain in their homes.”
A portion of the Earthrise Energy grant will be used for direct payments to mortgage companies or county clerk offices to help eligible homeowners cover past-due mortgage payments and property taxes, preventing final foreclosure actions. Another portion of the funding will support financial literacy workshops and one-on-one counseling, covering topics such as foreclosure prevention, post-purchase financial planning, budgeting, and credit management. ERBA will also use the grant to help clients apply for health and safety grants that can provide additional resources to maintain safe and stable housing.
“As a company committed to strengthening the communities where we operate, Earthrise Energy is proud to support ERBA’s vital foreclosure prevention efforts,” said Nicole Vaughn, Senior Project Development Manager at Earthrise Energy. “Helping families secure their homes and build financial skills is necessary for community stability.”
Earthrise Energy, an independent power producer, operates natural gas plants in Illinois and is developing more than 1.5 gigawatts of solar power in the state. Through its RISE Grant program, the company has committed over $180,000 in funding to support education, financial resilience, and community development in the Cumberland, Shelby, and Coles counties.
