Earthrise Energy Awards $10,000 Grant to Gibson Area Food Pantry to Help Combat Hunger

To help in the ongoing fight against hunger, Earthrise Energy recently awarded a $10,000 RISE Grant to the Gibson Area Food Pantry. The grant provides crucial financial support to help the nonprofit organization continue its mission of alleviating hunger and food insecurity among the most vulnerable in the region.

“We are proud to partner with the Gibson Area Food Pantry in their continued efforts to help those most in need. Providing an essential lifeline to the residents of Ford and neighboring counties, the pantry’s dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that no one in the community goes to bed hungry,” said Jonathan Pike, senior director of development at Earthrise Energy. “Since we established our grant program and began working with the Gibson Area Food Pantry last year, we have been inspired by their work and applaud them for improving the lives of those most in need.”

Serving nearly 300 individuals and families in need each month, the food pantry provides food supplies and other items to residents of Ford County, the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley school district, and neighboring counties.

“Many of our neighbors face immense financial challenges and struggle on a regular basis to put food on the table for their families. These challenges have been made more difficult due to rising inflation that has sent food prices skyrocketing,” said Rick Ertel, president of the Gibson Area Food Pantry. “That’s why we are thankful to Earthrise Energy for their continued support of the Gibson Area Food Pantry and its efforts to support the local community. Working together, we are creating a stronger and more resilient community that cares for those most in need.”

Earthrise Energy owns and operates five natural gas plants in Illinois, including the Gibson City Energy Center in Gibson City, the Shelby County Energy Center in Neoga, and the Tilton Energy power plant in Tilton. The company launched its RISE Grant program in the fall of 2022 to help fund local initiatives that promote excellence in education, protect the environment, and support the communities where the company has operations. Since then, Earthrise Energy has donated more than $100,000 to nonprofit and civic organizations in the state.
